Game for Teaching Very Basic Programming
Rončka, Martin ; Beran, Vítězslav (referee) ; Herout, Adam (advisor)
The main goal of this thesis is to create a game for teaching very basic programming. An analysis of current programming education games and education principles takes up the first part of this thesis. This is followed by a design and implementation of visual programming interface in Unity3d and later integration of this interface into a simple game supporting the foundings from the first part of the thesis. This thesis is then being evaluated from the technical and user perspective with the goal to analyze the effectiveness of both the visual programming interface and the game as a tool to introduce programming to non-coders.

Effect of gerrymandering on competitiveness in Congressional elections
Petrů, Tomáš ; Kotábová, Věra (advisor) ; Stauber, Jakub (referee)
Gerrymandering, a phenomenon describing the malpractice of electoral districts transformation known as redistricting is motivated by political gains and is considered to be a deep rooted example of a democratic deficit embedded in the political system of The United States of America. In the eyes of the public it is seen as a source of decrease in electoral competition. This thesis investigates the relation between gerrymandering and electoral competition through a quantitative statistical analysis based on the data collected from forty randomly chosen electoral district in the last House election in 2014. The findings show no statistically significant relation between gerrymandering and electoral competition and are then interpreted by different theoretical presumptions further shedding light on the results. The thesis accompanies already rather large number works focused on a statistical approach towards the topic of gerrymandering but offers a unique perspective of constructing the two variables whose relation is subject to the statistical testing.
Competitiveness and solidarity of high school students
Karasaridu, Klára ; Hájek, Martin (advisor) ; Spalová, Barbora (referee)
This master's thesis deals with competitiveness and solidarity among high school students. Students are required to have good results and achievements at school, which leads to competition among students to determine who is be the best. In addition, the class counts on cooperation and solidarity to function well as a group. These two phenomena can put pressure on students, and although they seem to be mutually exclusive, they are interconnected. This research focuses on these two elements in class relationships. I conducted qualitative semi- structured interviews. Due to the current pandemic situation, the interviews took place online. The main finding of the research is that competitiveness does not manifest itself in the usual way for students: it is not required by their surroundings, but they rather motivate themselves to compete with each other. Solidarity is reflected in how they work together and how they understand each other. For students it is important to have friendly relationships in the class, which makes them want to cooperate more (classmates with whom the students do not have such friendly relationships are not selected for cooperation to such an extent). Relationships are built not only through help and cooperation in the classroom, as expected, but above all through friendships...
Hormones and Competitive Behavior
Sýkora, Zdeněk ; Cingl, Lubomír (advisor) ; Bauer, Michal (referee)
The thesis aims to contribute to the literature on the biological underpinnings of important economic behaviors. Financial markets can become dangerously unstable from many reasons such as the hormones contained in our bodies. We primarily focus on the effect of basal testosterone and cortisol on willingness to compete and risk taking. We also investigate their interaction called the dual-hormone hypothesis, because it has not been sufficiently analyzed and replicated so far. We run a controlled laboratory experiment with 96 university students and have gender-balanced dataset, thus we can also examine gender differences. We find no support that higher testosterone increase willingness to compete in men as opposed to most of the recent literature. Moreover, higher levels of testosterone decrease competitiveness but only for women. We further find positive effect of the 2D:4D ratio for women and negative effect of trait anxiety for men on competitiveness. There are also substantial gender differences in competitive and risk taking behavior. We cannot confirm the dual-hormone hypothesis for willingness to compete. But we find significant support for the dual-hormone hypothesis for risk taking for women and with negative effect of testosterone on risk taking. The effects stay robust even after...
Analysis of the popularity of board games
VYHNANOVSKÁ, Markéta
This thesis describes tabletop games and the game-playing among adults. The work starts with an introduction of play, its formal characteristics, and the importance of playing throughout one's life. A special focus is given to board games and card games. I provide taxonomy of these games, as well as an introduction to the world of adult game fans. The second part of the thesis describes the phenomenon of playing from the psychological point of view. I give a special consideration to the social side of gaming, competitiveness, and to the game flow. The practical part of the work analyzes factors which contribute to the popularity of individual games. It focuses on the gamer's motivation towards the gameplay, and the experiences provided by a particular game. Results of a questionnaire are discussed, as well as the differences between groups of respondents as determined by age, sex, and the level of education.

Differences in Competitiveness at a Young Age: An Experiment
Kolda, Martin ; Chytilová, Julie (advisor) ; Cingl, Lubomír (referee)
In current world we can observe a substantial gender gap in the labor market as women tend to earn considerably less than men. One of the possible explanations of the wage gap might be the gap in the competitivness. Recent experimental economic literature has shown that there are differences between men and women in the preference to compete. In this study I explore competitiveness among children from the Czech Republic. Using a field experiment with a real task, I found that both boys and girls react to the competitive environment, but boys do compete significantly more than girls indicating a presence of the gender gap. On the contrary, age, number of siblings and activities, and education of parents do not affect the performance under competitive scheme.
